New website promotes local shopping during COVID-19

ELORA – Centre Wellington Township and the local Chamber of Commerce are partnering on a new website to encourage residents to shop locally during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Launching later this week with the theme “Keep the businesses we love, in business,” the website – www.shoplocalcw.ca – will allow consumers to purchase gift cards online to be redeemed when businesses re-open.

“This is a challenging time for our local businesses” Mayor Kelly Linton stated in a press release.

“Many of our business owners are residents, members of our community and continue to need our support.  They drive tourism and economic viability.

“This is our opportunity to support Centre Wellington’s small businesses, restaurants, and others.”

Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce general manager Dana Burdenuk said the website will support businesses post-pandemic, but also immediately, when they most need the help.

“During this unprecedented time, we are hearing from many businesses that cash flow is their biggest challenge” said Burdenuk.

“It’s important for all of us to do what we can to help businesses survive and thrive.”

Any business, artist, festival or company that sells a service, product or experience that can be redeemed later is welcome to enroll by completing a form at www.centrewellington.ca/shopform.

Officials say anyone with questions about the Shop Local CW campaign can email shoplocal@centrewellington.ca.
