New restaurant for Hamilton Drive area

The Pioneer gas station at the corner of Bedford Road and Highway 6 in Guelph-Eramosa may be adding a new restaurant at the site.

On May 16 council approved the site plan and entered into a site plan agreement with the owners of the gas station to alter the use of the existing building on the property to contain a restaurant and office.

A gas bar and convenience store are already located on the site and council also legalized the structure.

“The existing gas bar was not in compliance with the previous site plan and it was discovered during a building inspection and the owner has proposed to legalize this …” said township planning associate Kelsey Lang.

The new site plan conforms to the Wellington County official plan as well as to the area’s zoning regulations.

The site will be altered in such a way that the auto service shop will be converted into a restaurant (the tenants are not known at this time) and the residence will be converted into an office (tenants also unknown).

The residential access to Bedford Road will be removed and the existing front yard will be converted into additional parking spaces. There are 40 parking spots proposed.
