KENILWORTH – A new parochial school is proposed for a two-acre lot at the corner of Sideroad 6 East and Concession 4 North.
The lot is proposed to be legally separated from a 102-acre farm property owned by Lloyd Martin and rezoned to allow for the school.
At a March 25 public meeting, county planner Curtis Marshall said the 2,240-square-foot school would be adjacent to a horse shelter, gravel yard and two ball diamonds.
The county considers the land to be prime farmland in its official plan, and the township has it zoned for agriculture.
However, the county’s official plan allows for schools on agricultural land serving communities that rely largely on horse-drawn vehicles to get around.
Council approved a zoning bylaw amendment allowing the school plan to move forward, so long as the county approves a severance application.
