New OB/GYN services coming to Fergus

Residents in the Centre Wellington area will soon have increased access to obstetrical and gynecological services in the community.

Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) specialist, Dr. Jessica Rollings-Scattergood, has opened a practice in the Fergus Queen Street Medical Building – Upper Level.

Rollings-Scattergood will work alongside Dr. Dan Reilly, OB/GYN. Rollings-Scattergood is a recent graduate of McMaster University Medical School and has been working in the Centre Wellington community throughout her undergraduate medical and specialized residency training.

“It is great to be coming back to my home community. I have worked in many places throughout my training.” Rollings-Scattergood said. “Groves Hospital is where I always wanted to work and I am proud to join such a cohesive, knowledgeable and supportive OB Team.”

“Patients who have a family Doctor will need a referral to see me,” she said. “However if you do not have a family doctor you can call my office directly at 519-787-7418. If you are younger than 20 years old, you do not need a family doctor referral. Please feel free to call my office directly.”

Along with opening a new practice Rollings-Scattergood will join the Groves Memorial Community Hospital obstetrical team. The team will now consist of two OB-GYNs, eight family physicians, one family physician with advanced OB training for cesarean sections, registered nurses, dietitians and a pharmacist.

“Our entire team works with each patient to identify their needs and create a care plan,” Reilly explained. “Patients without a family doctor do not require a referral. They can call 519-843-2010 extension 3271 or e-mail us at prenatalclinic@gmch.fergus.net and a staff member will arrange an appointment.”

Groves Hospital Obstetrical Service also offers 24 hours, seven days a week anaesthetic/epidural services for women in labour and has increased ultrasound services.

“All of the recent changes are part of an on-going commitment to provide excellence in family centered maternity care,” said Jerome Quenneville, Groves hospital’s president and CEO.
