Jamie Couper, who lives just southeast of Arthur, was named chairman of the county library committee at its first meeting of 2009, on Jan. 14.
County Chief Executive Officer Scott Wilson conducted the elections. County councillor and chairman of the information, heritage, and seniors committee Brad Whitcombe nominated Couper, and that was seconded by citizen committee member Debbie Cudney.
There were no further nominations, so Couper was acclaimed. The appointment is expected to be ratified on Thursday at county council.
Wellington County Chief Librarian Janice Hindley said in an interview that Couper is the first non-council member in at least ten years to chair the library committee.
She said he has much experience on the board, and “It’s a good opportunity for him to take a leadership role.
She noted that Whitcombe, who is now past chairman of the committee, is vice-chairman.
