It was much like a delivery room at the Arthur Fire Hall on March 11, as department members paced the hall awaiting its newest member.
About 20 minutes late due to road conditions, the new truck arrived, proving even a bit of stormy weather was not about to prevent it from reaching its destination that night.
Arthur Fire Chief Jim Morrison said, “The new pumper truck for Arthur will be our front line pump truck for the community of Arthur and the surrounding area.”
Morrison added the truck will be available for fighting fires, auto extrications, first aid and other emergencies. It replaced a 1986 Chevy.
Features of the new truck include a light tower and a hydraulic ladder to bring the equipment from the roof of the truck down to the height of an average firefighter.
“It’s a safety feature,” Morrison said. In addition, the new cab provides standing room, again for the average firefighter, he said.
After taxes, the new unit came in at just over $500,000.
Wellington North Mayor Ray Tout described the new unit as an “awesome looking machine. We can be very proud of this truck coming out to do service for Wellington North, especially in the village of Arthur.” To Morrison, Tout added, “Jim, you should be very proud.” He quipped, “As much as I hate to let go of this cheque …” as he handed it over to ResQTech sales representative Kyle Innes.
“On behalf of Wellington North, we want to thank you guys for providing a fantastic truck for us.”
Innes thanked Wellington North for its continued support,” as he presented Morrison with a ceremonial key.
The truck was on display at the Arthur community centre the following morning.
