WATERLOO REGION – The Child Witness Centre has appointed David Morneau as its new executive director, following the retirement of Laura Muirhead, who headed the organization for the past seven years.
Morneau is a lawyer who spent 20 years running a family law practice in Kitchener. In 2004 he joined a specialized anti-human trafficking team and was contract counsel for Family and Children’s Services of Waterloo Region and for the Family Responsibility Office.
He brings a passion for helping families and children wade through the legal and criminal justice system.
“David brings a unique combination of skills to this position. His work as a collaborative legal professional and his passion for helping children and youth, provide a strong foundation for his leadership of the Child Witness Centre. David will be instrumental in advancing our strategic plan and ensuring we provide critical services to children and youth who are victims of or witnesses to crime, empowering them toward strong futures,” Lisa Allen, chair of the board of directors, said in a press release.
“As the Executive Director, I’m excited about contributing to the continued growth and development of the Child Witness Centre,” Morneau stated in the same release. “I’m honoured to be leading an excellent team of staff who are dedicated to ensuring that young victims and witnesses of abuse and crime feel safe, valued and heard, giving them the support they need to move toward healthy futures.”
