New crossing guard at Belsyde and Tower streets this fall

Students at the south end of town will have a guiding hand to cross Highway 6 this fall.

Centre Wellington is getting an additional crossing guard for the intersection of Tower and Belsyde streets.

The issue recently came to attention of the Advertiser via Twitter.

However, Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton explained in an email “the township has been monitoring this intersection for several years.”

In the past, the number of students under grade 6 did not warrant a crossing guard.

But “during the last school year,  another warrant study was conducted, and the warrant determined that a crossing guard is required for  this intersection,” Linton said.

He added the township plans to have a crossing guard in place for the start of the school year. Students will be required to cross on the west side (Elora Street) of Tower Street, and the north side of the intersection.
