Guelph-Eramosa councillors could not say enough good things about the new ambulance bay at the Rockwood fire hall at a recognition ceremony on July 18.
“The way it came to fruition is way better than we ever imagined,” councillor Doug Breen said of having ambulance, police, and fire services all in the same location on Main Street North.
Mayor Chris White said the township is “pretty proud of where we are right now,” and noted a new medical clinic would be the icing on the cake for municipal health care services, which are an essential part of the township’s mandate.
White said the new ambulance bay in the fire hall – which was a long time coming – would not have been possible without the foresight of previous councils, including those led by former Mayor Dave Adsett, who ensured the new fire hall would be large enough to accommodate ambulance service. County councillor Gord Tosh, Guelph Mayor Karen Farbridge, and Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong were also among those recognized by White.
Deputy Fire Chief Lyle Quan said the new ambulance stationed in Rockwood should lower Guelph-Eramosa and Erin response times, which are among the highest in the county.
