Puslinch council has agreed to meet with the Optimist Club to discuss signs on the new multi-use recreational facility (MURF) as well as possibly forming a committee to oversee the building’s operations.
“I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request,” councillor Dick Visser said of the club’s suggestion that it have representation on any operating committee.
“It’s time to look at how we’re going to run this thing.”
Councillor Matthew Bulmer said recreation committee members liked the idea, and seem in favour of instituting a facilities manager to oversee all the township’s recreational assets.
Councillor Susan Fielding agreed there needs to be discussion on the facility’s operation, but wondered if the already-existing MURF committee could do it.
Mayor Brad Whitcombe said the township needs to meet with the Optimist Club and the recreation committee for “a brainstorming session.”
The Optimists have also requested a sign on an outside wall of the arena, including its name and logo, to acknowledge their contribution.
Bulmer suggested a sign on the ice and in the gymnasium might make more sense, since the club’s motivation from the beginning was the ice surface.
Whitcombe said the sign could also be discussed during the meeting about the facility’s operations and council agreed.
