Parents at Elora Public School will have one less thing to fret about when school begins on Sept. 3.
The Community Resource Centre Childcare program will begin offering before and after school licensed child care for both junior and senior kindergarten students in one program and elementary school students aged six to 12 years.
“We are creating a seamless day for children,” said program coordinator Karen Goodman, child care supervisor. “When they leave their parents they enter a safe environment, then move into the classroom and then back to the supervised environment.”
Goodman said this will make things easy on parents, noting the one stop drop-off and pick up for their children.
“Our goal is to reduce the number of transitions in these children’s daily schedules,” Goodman said.
Junior and senior kindergarten students will remain in the same classroom and playground areas within the school as they do during the school period.
Older students will have a separate location within the school, designated for the licensed child care specifications.
The program will include nutritious snacks and quality programming facilitated by registered early childhood educators.
“The Elora Public School staff have been very cooperative,” said Goodman. “I think it’s going to be a great partnership that will be a great benefit for the families there.”
During P.A. Days, (professional activity days), students enrolled in the child care program will go to the licensed child care facility permanently located at J. D. Hogarth Public School, in Fergus, which offers full day child care all year, plus before and after school care.
The Community Resource Centre also operates a similar program at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Fergus.
The new program at Elora Public School will offer before school child care beginning at 7am in the morning, at a cost of $10 per day. The after school program will continue until 6pm, at a cost of $12 a day.
