The township’s Awards of Excellence were created several years ago to recognize excellence in the community, and now there are some changes.
The event of the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce has won first place recognition in provincial and national adjudications. As part of producing a high calibre and effective recognition program, the committee has changed the criteria and process for one of the awards.
In past years, the Business Beautification and Heritage award has been presented to recognize efforts made by businesses making an effort to enhance the beauty of their facility or recognize venues with significant heritage value.
Acting on feedback from the judging panel, the committee has decided to divide that category into two separate awards.
Those awards will be presented on alternating years
Chairman of the awards of excellence committee Michael Weinstein reported, “The judges often found it very challenging to weigh the merits of what were excellent candidates from extremely divergent positions.
For example, how do you compare the reconstruction of a business façade which significantly enhances its appearance in the community versus a long standing historical building or location?”
The committee agreed with the judges and has fine tuned that award. This year will be the first presentation of the Business Beautification award. Its intent is to recognize a business that has taken great pride and ownership of their community corporate image through exterior maintenance, upkeep, and development. The Heritage award will be presented next year.
