A new 4-H club about cooking with milk has just been started. The first meeting at Brander’s house on Jan. 11 started with roll call about what members’ favourite food made from milk is. Next the group talked about the club and why milk is important. Officers were elected. They are: president Avery Tivendale, vice-president Mary Brander, secretary Abigail Morton and press reporter Josh Brander.
The group made “Berry Tasty Muffins” then talked about calcium. They did an experiment with chicken bones and vinegar. The vinegar will bind all the calcium from the bones. Everyone made a hypothesis: the bone will snap, it will disintegrate or it will become flexible.
The group will check next meeting to see the results. They then made Pizzadillas – a pizza tortilla sandwich with spinach, cheese and marinara sauce. Most but not all liked it, as some don’t like spinach.
After cleaning up, the group ended the meeting with the 4-H motto. Members are to try a recipe at home this week. Hopefully families will like their cooking.
