Nestlé Waters Canada, has announced a donation of $42,336 worth of bottled water to Project Water.
On July 6, Nestlé Waters delivered 241,920 bottles of water to the volunteer organization, which distributes bottled water to those living on Greater Toronto Area (GTA) streets who suffer from dehydration during the summer months.
Project Water officials will distribute the water to more than 160 social service agencies over the next few months that work with the homeless and needy in Toronto and across the GTA.
Agencies that receive the water include the Salvation Army, the Canadian Red Cross, Street Health Bus, St. John Ambulance, the Scott Mission and the YWCA.
Since 2006, Nestlé Waters has donated more than 885,984 bottles of water to the organization, valued at $152,336.
According to Project Water founder Jody Steinhauer, more homeless persons die on the streets in the summer due to dehydration, than in the winter due to hypothermia.
“Dehydration amongst those living on the streets of Toronto is a major health crisis in our community – and we are very pleased that, once again, Nestlé Waters Canada has stepped up to the plate,” said Steinhauer.
“Our volunteer efforts in support of those who live on the streets of Toronto would not be possible without the generous donation of bottled water and staff time by Nestlé Waters Canada.”
