Neighbourwoods received federal funding to hire local students

Michael Chong, MP for Wellington-Halton Hills, met earlier this summer with four of the students hired by Neighbourwoods this summer.

The Elora Environment Centre (EEC) received federal funding through Canada Summer Jobs, a program that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students.

The funding helps their program, Neighbourwoods, hire summer students, who will benefit from gaining valuable work experience.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience while boosting our local economy,” said Chong.

“I have no doubt that these students will benefit from personal and professional growth during their time with Neighbourwoods.”

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people  (aged 15 to 30 years), and who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

The program provides valuable work experience for students and supports organizations that provide important community services.

Neighbourwoods promotes healthy urban forests by conducting tree inventories, planting and stewarding trees and raising public awareness through events, Tree Talks and various outreach projects.
