NeighbourWoods on the Grand is inviting everyone to help celebrate Earth Day with Centre Wellington’s very own Earth Day Celebration on April 22 from 5:30 to 6:30pm in front of the Centre Wellington Civic Centre in Elora (1 MacDonald Square).
Over 500 million people, in over 164 countries worldwide, will be celebrating Earth Day on April 22.
“NeighbourWoods is excited to host Earth Day in Elora,” said marketing oordinator of the Elora Environment Centre Bethany Mulder. “Our event will be fun and family-friendly. We have many activities planned including a chance for the public to win a Blackberry Playbook.”
According to Earth Day Canada, the first Earth Day was launched on April 22, 1970 in the United States. The day was created by a Wisconsin governor who wanted to influence U.S. Congress to enforce stricter environmental laws. He also wanted to educate the public about pollution of the environment.
Today, Earth Day has grown into a huge event celebrated worldwide.
NeighbourWoods’ Earth Day will include live music, children’s activities, and tips on how to save energy as well as a free draw for the Playbook. The event will also feature homemade chili and hot apple cider ($5 adults/$3 children) from Wreckless Eric.
NeighbourWoods asks the public to be environmentally-conscious and bring a bowl, mug and spoon if they wish to try some of the chili and cider.
If Mother Nature decides to bring rain to Elora on April 22, NeighbourWoods will move Earth Day events to the picnic table shelter in Hoffer Park behind the municipal hall in Elora.
For more information on the event, the public is asked to call 519-846-0841.
