For the third year, NeighbourWoods on the Grand and the Elora Environment Centre are teaming up for a film night on Aug.1, as both a fundraiser and a fun social awareness event.
Screening the film, The Clean Bin Project, the story follows the lives of a couple working hard to live completely waste-free for an entire year. Handled with optimism, humour and inspiration, the movie is a beacon of hope for individual action towards a greener future.
“We picked this film as it suggests a very real way to make a change and have an environmental impact,” said event organizer Carly Jenkins.
“I think the film is important because it talks about visualizing the garbage we create,” she explains, adding, “Its empowering and uplifting with a positive message – and it’s a Canadian story.”
The film features interviews with reowned artist Chris Jordan and TED lecturer Captain Charles Moore.
Admission to the film is by donation. All proceeds of the event go to beneft the Save Our Ash Tree campagin.
“Basically we want to raise $4000 to treat at least 6 of our best Ash trees,” said Toni Ellis of NeighbourWoods. “Big cities are saving some of their prize trees, but I don’t know any small municipalities which are, so I hope we can do it.”
Ellis’s home in Elora will act as the venue.
“Bring a lawn chair, as it’s in our driveway. It’s a walk-in movie, (the environmental version of the drive-in),” she joked. “This is the third year we’ve done it and it’s a sweet little event.” Movie Night takes place on Aug. 1, at 69 North Queen Street in Elora with an 8pm arrival for snacks and seats.
