Nearly $3 million in funding announced for county hospitals

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Hospitals in Wellington County will receive an additional $2.9 million provincial funding.

Groves Memorial Community Hospital will receive $2.5 million, an increase of 9.8 per cent over last year’s allocation.

North Wellington Health Care, which operates hospitals in Palmerston and Mount Forest, will receive $400,000, an increase of 2%.

The local funding was announced May 3 by Perth-Wellington MP Randy Pettapiece.

Hospitals cross Perth and Wellington counties will see nearly $5.2 million in new funding.

“This funding will keep our local hospitals strong, meeting the needs of all of us in Perth-Wellington,” said Pettapiece.

“It will help them deliver the procedures people need, while also dealing with COVID-19.

“This new investment is just one way Ontario is supporting high-quality and timely access to health care to ensure we have the capacity to stay open,” Pettapiece added.

“And of course, all of this depends on the doctors, nurses, and other dedicated healthcare professionals and hospital staff. Their work is essential.”

According to the Ministry of Health, all publicly funded hospitals across the province will see a minimum increase of two per cent.

“Ontario’s hospitals have been unwavering in their commitment to protect the health and wellbeing of Ontarians, and our government is committed to ensuring that they have the resources needed to recover from the pandemic and meet the ongoing needs of the communities they serve,” said Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott.

“By increasing investments in hospitals province-wide, our government is helping to ensure that patients have access to the high-quality care they need, when and where they need it.”

Thanks to a policy change introduced two years ago, small and medium sized hospitals continue to receive annualized funding, states a press release announcing the funding.
