The Arthur and Area Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Oct. 22 at the Arthur Chamber of Commerce building, 146 George Street in Arthur.
Guest speaker will be John Walsh, who will share his experiences from World War II.
Walsh enlisted in the Navy in 1944, at the age of 18, and was trained in the use of sonar before being stationed to the HMCS Wallaceburg, a 990-ton minesweeper. His job, as part of the ASDIC team (the anti-submarine detection investigation committee), was locating submarines.
After the war, Walsh was trained as a pharmacist. He purchased a local drug store in 1952 and continues to be active in the business today.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, which will begin at 7:30pm.
