WELLINGTON COUNTY – It’s National Trucking Week in Canada, beginning Sept. 4.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), the country’s national trucking group, in conjunction with the provincial trucking associations, launched National Trucking Week many years ago.
It begins on the first Sunday in September and runs to the following Saturday.
The purpose of the weeklong celebration is to recognize the important contributions made by the 400,000 Canadian men and women who keep the country’s freight moving.
Provincial trucking associations, carriers, industry suppliers and other stakeholders are encouraged to undertake activities in their own province to mark the event.
In previous years, provincial associations have marked the occasion with contests, promotions, and special events at truck stops and roadside inspection stations.
Carriers and industry suppliers have hosted barbecues, breakfasts, truck washes, offered special giveaways to employees and marked the week event with a wide variety of activities.
Various events across the country will bring the trucking community and others together to celebrate a job well done, to recognize those who make it happen, and to promote the industry’s dedication to Canada’s economy, to environmental enhancement and as always to the highest standards of safety.
“Every company has its own unique way to show drivers and their families how much they’re appreciated,” stated CTA president David Bradley.
“This year I hope the celebrations will be bigger and better than ever.
“We salute the men and women who form the backbone of the trucking industry. Without you the country would literally stop.”
