Museum to host remembrance ceremony

With the 2010 passing of the last Canadian World War I veteran, the task of remembering all fallen soldiers now rests with us all.

To commemorate the contributions of soldiers and nurses who perished during the war, 317 memorials will be displayed on the front lawn at Wellington County Museum and Archives.

“We are honoured to remember the fallen with this outdoor display,” said Beth Dyer, programming assistant.

“We hope that as people walk through the rows of the fallen they will reflect on the sacrifice of Canada’s service men and women that have served this country. As a tribute to the veterans, this outdoor display will be up for the month of November.”

The museum is hosting a special remembrance ceremony on the front lawn on Nov. 5 at 10:30am to commemorate the fallen.

“We hope the display will help our visitors understand the importance of remembering the past,” said Dyer.

“These young men and women left their communities to make a difference.”
