Musashi Auto Parts to expand warehouse in Arthur

The owner of Musashi Auto Parts Canada has applied for site plan approval from North Wellington Township to build new warehouse space in Arthur.

The company is looking to construct a 2,363 square-metre warehouse addition on the existing 9024 m2 auto parts factory and warehouse known as Plant 2.

Musashi Auto Parts operates out of Arthur on 500 Domville Street. It is one of the township’s larger employers, according to CAO Michael Givens, but has had issues in the past with filling vacancies.

“This is a significant increase in terms of the size and will be a significant construction project. I think it’s positive for the community but it will also have some other impacts as well,” said Givens at the Sept. 10 meeting.

Mayor Andy Lennox also spoke in support of the project and the jobs it could create in the area.

“I hope they are able to find the workforce because we know that is a problem, and we want to keep them here,” said Lennox.

Property standard fees

A resident on Birmingham Street, Mount Forest has been charged $2,030 in property standards fees by Wellington North Township.

According to a statement written by CAO Michael Givens and CBO Darren Jones, the township was forced to step in and complete necessary work on the property to ensure the overall public safety of neighbouring property owners and pedestrian traffic in the area.

Donna Jean Moore Morphy received two invoices for the work.

The first was for cutting weeds and grass and the removal of garbage dumped on the property totaling to $1,183.

The second was the cost of boarding up and securing the property where trespassers were gaining entry, in the amount of $848.

At the previous Aug. 23 council meeting, Morphy requested that the fees be waived. Council rejected the request.

Arthur Fairgrounds construction

Council has approved construction on the Arthur Fairgrounds for Practice Diamond C.

The project is expected to cost $33,349 plus taxes.

The money will be used to decommission an existing electrical service cabinet, excavate Diamond C and install a batting cage and two pitching screens.

To pay the cost of construction, council directed staff to use the 2019 Development Charge allotment of $27,000 to fund the project and the Council’s Community Initiated Project grant of $4,000. Arthur Minor Softball has also raised an equivalent contribution of $4,000 to help with the building project.

Asset management

Councillor Dan Yake is represent council in future Township Asset Management team meetings. On Aug. 7 the federal government and FCM approved funding for $50,000 to help Wellington North map its asset management direction. Yake’s presence will help ensure council is informed on how the asset management is being used.
