Murphy Park mix-up: new swings not stolen, just being replaced

Residents here can relax knowing a pair of swings that went missing at Murphy Park were not stolen, as initially reported by police.

The mix-up started on Aug. 3 at about 1:15pm, when the Wellington County OPP issued a press release stating that between July 29 and 30, someone stole two infant swings from the park.

Police estimated the cost of the “Little Tikes tot seats” at $250, and asked the public to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers with information.

About 75 minutes later, police issued another press release stating the swings were not stolen – they were simply being replaced by the manufacturer “with accessibility swings.”

OPP spokesman Josh Cunningham said he was not sure what caused the mix-up.

“Staff contacted us and advised that the swings were not stolen,” he said.
