Mount Forest Legion pledges $2,500 towards new pool

MOUNT FOREST – The Fred Campbell VC Royal Canadian Legion Branch 134 has pledged to donate $2,500 over the next five years toward a new outdoor pool for Mount Forest.

“Their pledge brings us closer to our fundraising goals and the completion of this much anticipated project,” Mount Forest aquatics ad-hoc advisory committee fundraising chair Ray Tout stated in a news release. “We are deeply grateful for their commitment, not only to this initiative but also to the future of our community.”

The Legion presented its first $500 installment to the committee on Dec. 16.

“Their investment is a testament to their dedication to enhancing the quality of life in Mount Forest,” Tout stated. “This new outdoor pool will provide a wonderful space for recreation, fitness, and community gatherings for years to come.”

The new pool, which will be located on Princess Street beside the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex, will replace the Lion Roy Grant Community Pool on Parkside Drive, which closed in June of 2022 and never reopened.

The old pool was demolished in the fall.

The cost of the new Princess Street facility is estimated at $5.3 million, and the project has a fundraising goal of $2.5 million, the release stated.

Once 80 per cent of that goal has been reached, “next steps in the construction of the new outdoor pool will begin,” it stated.

“Thank you, Legion Branch 134, for believing in our vision and helping to make it a reality,” Tout stated in the release.

The advisory committee welcomes the opportunity to speak with local groups, service clubs and businesses about the project.
