There is a new northern venue for seniors to access seniors’ services in Wellington County.
The Mount Forest Family Health Team recently announced its partnership with the Seniors’ Centre for Excellence by providing a location in town for services.
Seniors health service coordinator Helen Edwards is now providing services at the Claire Stewart Medical Clinic on Monday from 9am to 5pm.
Funded under the Waterloo Wellington Local Integration Network’s Aging at Home Strategy, the coordinator position was developed to assist seniors to maintain their independence and remain safely in their home of choice.
The program is managed by Mapleton Township and has been primarily housed in the Minto-Mapleton Family Health Team office in Drayton, with a satellite office one day a week at the Legion in Harriston.
The Seniors’ Centre for Excellence recently expanded to include a site in Mount Forest and one at the Arthur Family Medical Centre.
The services include assistance to connect seniors with services available in the community and helping seniors or their families filling out forms for such things as Old Age Security, Canada Pension Plan, and applications for grants to provide home or vehicle adaptations.
The program providers will work with the Mount Forest Family Health Team, other community support providers, and health organizations to bring educational seminars and recreational programs to Mount Forest.

“We have noted through our work in the Township of Mapleton and the Town of Minto that seniors have a keen interest in health related topics and understand the connection between knowledge and maintaining health,” said Edwards. “We are excited to have a presence in Mount Forest and appreciate the partnership with the Mount Forest Family Health Team.”
The Mount Forest Family Health Team continues to provide team based health care services to patients with the six doctors and three nurse practitioners in that community.
