Mount Forest artist has art exhibit at Kitchener Public Library

KITCHENER – Mount Forest native Sylvia Woods has a new exhibit at the Kitchener Public Library.

The exhibit, called Orchids and Oceans, is an exploration of floral and ocean life symbolism.

Woods has studied at the Ontario College of Art and her time living and travelling in Europe has influenced and encouraged the visual direction for her work.

Woods’ inspiration is derived from the symbolic meaning of natural elements, such as fruit, flowers, insects, and marine life particularly as they were known and used in art during the Medieval, Renaissance and Victorian eras.

She elevates these symbols by isolating them from the narrative work of the master painters to give them a life and significance of their own.

Woods currently works out of her studio in downtown Guelph.

Orchids and Oceans will officially open on Oct. 3 during an opening reception from 7 to 9pm at the central Kitchener Public Library art gallery.
