The 895 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is ramping up for another exciting, fun season of challenging, dynamic activities. Weekly meetings begin 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Victoria Cross Public School, 355 Durham Street West Mount Forest.
The squadron will warmly welcome new members interested in making new friends, meeting new challenges and having a lot of fun. To join, boys and girls must be at least 12 years old and no older than 18. There is no cost to join and uniforms are provided.
The air cadet program focuses on leadership, citizenship and physical fitness, all structured within a military environment that emulates a training establishment of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The program exposes cadet members to a wide variety of activities that includes aerospace, marksmanship, precision foot drill, music, first aid, effective speaking and wilderness survival.
Along the way, cadets acquire such transferable life skills as self-confidence, time management, ethical conduct, team building and environmental stewardship. After a year’s membership, cadets can qualify for more intense two- and three-week courses at Cadet Summer Training Centres across the country. Senior cadets may earn the opportunity for six-week courses, summer jobs, flight training and foreign travel.
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets has been Canada’s premier youth organization for nearly 75 years, operating in partnership between the Air Cadet League of Canada and the Canadian Forces. 895 Fred Campbell V.C. Squadron is Mount Forest’s local component of Air Cadets, sponsored by the Mt. Mount Forest Lions Club and by the Royal Canadian Legion branch 134 Mount Forest. The squadron meets every Wednesday evening and also participates in community events, weekend field training campouts and familiarization flying throughout the year.
