Due to widespread flooding on Friday morning, Minto officials are asking motorists to avoid Harriston and advising local residents to stay home if possible.
“If forced to travel this area please exercise extreme caution,” stated a June 23 town press release.
Officials say there is a route around Harriston but it is not signed.
Coming from the north (Mount Forest): Highway 89 west, Wellington Road 6 south to 10th Line west to Highway 89, head north briefly on Wellington Road 2, west on 14th Line, south on Ayton Road to Highway 9 to Harriston.
Coming from the south (Harriston): north on Highway 9 toward Clifford, north on Ayton Road to 14th Line, east on Ayton Road to Wellington Road 2, south briefly to Highway 89 head south to 10th Line east to Wellington Road 6, north to 89 toward Mount Forest.
