There could be a few more jobs than previously reported at the new Maple Leaf Foods distribution centre in Puslinch.
On April 4, Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever provided council with more information on the previous week’s announcement about the facility being built in the township.
Lever said, “Most, if not all of you, have heard the announcement about Maple Leaf Foods locating their facility at the corner of McLean and Brock Road. While I was personally involved with this proposal for about 10 weeks, many others were offering their technical expertise and support. This was a real team effort requiring the input of many people.”
Lever said, “As a result, I want to thank township council for their continued support and encouragement, township staff for their help and guidance, all of our township consultants for their technical expertise and support, but most of all, all of the above groups for adhering to the requirement of absolute confidentiality for this. It was something that had to be kept a secret and we did do that.
This is a wonderful win for Puslinch and everyone involved should be very pleased and proud.”
Near the end of the meeting, Lever added, “I think this is a wonderful thing for the community and I look forward to the jobs which will be coming here.”
He said articles in local Newspapers talked about 80 jobs to operate the facility.
However, Lever said there will also be an office and quality control lab associated with the facility.
“The people in the distribution centre will be working for the DB Shenker group, which will actually be running the facility. The people in the office and the lab will be Maple Leaf employees. They are hoping to get started in June, and I’m sure we’re going to see a flurry of activity in our building department with plans and requests for other things.
