More holiday heroes needed for Adopt-A-Family program

GUELPH – The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is putting a call out to help the 92 families who are still waiting to be matched with community donors for Christmas through the Adopt-A-Family Program.

“The holiday season is a time of great joy but also can be a time of increased pressure and stress for parents,” said executive director Glenna Banda.

“The Adopt-A-Family program works with over 25 social and community agencies to help ease that stress for families in need and remind them that their community cares.”

Last year, the Adopt-A-Family program helped 1,186 families and with over 1,100 families already referred this year, the need is just as high.

Families referred to the program include single moms and dads, independent youth, two parent families, as well as children being raised by grandparents and other extended family.

The needs and wish lists provided to the donor are the actual needs and wishes of the children and families, which adds to the personal nature of the program.

Adopt-A-Family donors appreciate this unique connection and knowing they are helping a family in their community, officials say.

Those interested in helping support one of the remaining families, or who would like to help in another way, such as donating much-needed grocery and gift cards can visit www.childrensfoundation.org to sign-up or call the Children’s Foundation Adopt-A-Family Team at 519-829-0855.
