The Grade 9 Fun Day at Centre Wellington District High School had a great turnout on Sept. 23.
There were eight events that took place on the school’s field all afternoon.
None of the events were based on any skill set; they were designed so that every student could enjoy the day and have fun.
Each event had two to three “Link Leaders” who volunteered.
“Link is a program that originated in the states and is mainly about the orientation of grade 9s into the school, to help them with their transition into high school,” said Elizabeth Wood, a math teacher at the school.
“We want all different types of student leaders, because we have all kinds of grade 9s.”
She added, “The event was started to help the grade 9s meet new students and build a sense of community. This was the first year in many that the event was held at the school.”
The students enjoyed the events while music played across the field, which was DJ’d by the school’s Tech Crew.
Officials say it was a fun and welcoming environment.
