Mississauga man, 31, drowns in Belwood Lake

A Mississauga man drowned in Belwood Lake last weekend.

On July 29 at about 4pm emergency crews were called for a water rescue at the lake.

Wellington County OPP officials say four men stopped their boat in about six metres (20 feet) of water to swim and sometime thereafter two men appeared to be in distress in the water.

“One male was rescued by another boater and rushed to a local hospital,” police stated in a press release.

“The second male … did not resurface.”

OPP officers, Centre Wellington firefighters and Guelph-Wellington paramedics searched for the missing man, but the search was called off at dusk.

The next day the OPP dive team searched the area where the man was last seen and recovered his body.

He was identified as Sathees Gnanenthiran, 31, of Mississauga.

Police officials, who say the man was not wearing a life jacket, thanked the public for their assistance in keeping clear of recovery efforts.
