Minto to spend $25,500 on Toronto Street lighting

The Town of Minto will spend about $25,500 to light up a section of Toronto Street here.

Council accepted a quote from Black’s Electric for the installation of five light poles and six lighting fixtures. Work includes replacement of a light on Main Street that was removed in the past, with the rest  installed between Main Street and 335 Toronto Street.

“This is a high volume traffic area with vehicles entering and exiting the TG Minto site. Also with Milton Seiler Crescent nearing completion, there is more pedestrian traffic in this area,” notes a report from public works staff.

Two other quotes were received for the project: $32,500 from Advanced Electric and $35,250 from Metzger Electric.

Mayor George noted the streetlight installation for that stretch of road “has been along time coming,” but was delayed because the town wanted to first finalize arrangements for a town-wide conversion to LED street lighting.

“It’s very important to have this. It’s a dark area,” said Bridge noting the additional lighting is in keeping of with the town’s efforts to create “walkable communities.”
