Minto to provide facilities for CELP

The Town of Minto has agreed to allow Norwell District Secondary School to use the area around the Harriston arena and Greenway Trail as a base for its Community Environmental Leadership Program (CELP).

CELP has been running at Camp Wyoka, north of Clifford, in recent years, mainly from April to June. The camp is being sold so a new location is required to run the program, especially the Earth Keepers component for Grade 5 students.
A report from recreation services manager Matt Lubbers indicates the program will primarily use the pavilion, a storage shed and the green spaces on the south side of the walking bridge.
Lubbers notes the program runs from 9am to 3pm on weekdays, when the locations are not normally rented.
In lieu of rent, minor maintenance and improvements to the grounds will be completed by the students in the program.
“In light of this, the program should add little to no additional maintenance requirements by town staff,” the report points out.
Council passed a bylaw on Dec. 19 authorizing an agreement covering the facilities.
