In celebration of the Canada Packers Reunion taking place Aug. 11, 2018 and the history of York Ice Cream production in Harriston, the Minto Cultural Roundtable and the Harriston Downtown Revitalization Committee have teamed up to launch an outdoor public art exhibit titled “Cool Cones.”
Cool Cones” will see 10 artists adding their art and craftwork to a three-dimensional metal and urethane spray foam ice cream cone sculpture to create unique works of art. The base sculpture has been created by Minto resident Andy Pridham from Weathered. The “Cool Cones” will be on display from June 2 to Oct. 26.
Area artists are encouraged to visit www.treasuresofminto.ca for the Call for Artists information.
“The Harriston Downtown Revitalization Committee has been working on this idea for a couple years now in an effort to stop traffic in the downtown core,” said economic development manager Belinda Wick-Graham.
A special event is being planned to unveil the Cool Cones on June 2 and the public will be invited to vote on the “People’s Choice” cone from June 2 to Aug. 11, when the winning artist will be recognized at the annual Harriston Street Dance.
