It is only $270, but it is for a good cause.
Minto has once again endorsed paying part of the insurance bill for the Drew community centre.
At a recent parks and recreation advisory committee meeting, Recreation Director Dave Stonley read a letter from the Drew board, which is seeking financial assistance from the town.
“The Drew board is not covered under the Town of Minto’s insurance coverage.”
It requested $270, which is half of the cost of its own insurance policy.
Councillor David Turton said this is the same amount Minto gave last year.
Councillor Rick Hembley asked how that compared to other committees in the town, such as for the Norgan Theatre and other committees.
Clerk Marsha Paley considered this board is “in name only”. She said the Drew board and the Norgan Theatre minutes come through the town’s parks and recreation advisory committee.
Turton agreed.
“We’ve got two volunteer groups. They’re extremely strong groups, and we’ve allowed some freedom. It’s what they want ,and they’re doing a great job.”
Council passed the motion without further discussion.
