Minto public works funding recognized

It’s better late than never when it comes to offering thanks.

Recently, Minto Treasurer Gord Duff said that in 2008 Minto received $474,820 under the Investing in Ontario fund.

However during a recent review of that funding in March 2010, “It was brought to our attention that we have to recognize that investment … which is something we are very happy to do.

“We’ve all been in an economic downturn and the province and federal governments entrusted the municipalities to help stimulate that economy.

He said “They gave us money, and we were supposed to stimulate it … which is exactly what we’ve done.”

He said Minto used the money to partly reconstruct William Street  in Palmerston, do storm sewer work in Harriston, repaired the William Street bridge in Clifford, and repaved the 4th Line.

“If you give us money, we will happily spend it, and spend it locally.”

He said Zoltan Tako, of Gamsby and Mannerow, was a key engineer in those projects.

Tako said things worked out well, and the projects were “pretty much on budget”

Minister of Revenue John Wilkinson said Minto’s approach was good to jump right on it and be able to get good pricing. “They got tremendous value for the money.”
