MINTO – Town council approved a motion proclaiming November to be Falls Prevention Month.
The proclamation, approved at the Sept. 22 meeting, was approved at the request of the local Seniors’ Centre For Excellence.
“Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths and hospitalizations and cost the healthcare system $9.1 billion (direct costs), resulting in 1.5 million emergency department visits, 133,017 hospitalizations, 38,848 disabilities, and 5,249 deaths,” states a letter to council from the centre.
