MINTO – The Town of Minto has announced all its municipal buildings will remain closed until April 30.
On March 23 the town announced that as of 5pm essential services such as fire, water, wastewater, road maintenance and minimal building services would be the only departments with staff remaining at the municipal office, which is closed to the public.
The rest of the municipal staff are being required to work from home.
The town originally set April 6 as the date at which it would reconsider the announced measures.
The Minto municipal office, as well as recreation and culture facilities, will remain closed to the public. This consists of all arenas, curling clubs, community halls, museums, theatres, playgrounds, public recreation spaces, Launch It Minto and any other town run facilities.
All public and committee meetings are also cancelled until April 30.
“At this time the COVID-19 situation will be reassessed, and an update provided,” the town states in a March 31 press release.
Residents need to contact the town are still urged to call the municipal office, follow the appropriate phone prompts and leave a voicemail. Staff will return calls when possible. If residents know the email address of the person they need to reach electronic communication is encouraged.
“The Town of Minto strongly urges residents to continue taking steps to help slow the spread of COVID-19. All residents should continue to follow the recommendations to keep a distance of two metres from anyone other than your immediate family that you live with,” officials state.
Avoid crowded places, cancel social events, and only go out for essential needs once a week, the town advises. Avoid contact with people at a higher risk such as older adults, those with compromised immune systems and those in poor health. Stay home as much as possible.
“It is critical that everyone continues to follow these measures to keep our great community safe. Minto is a resilient community and will get through this unusual time stronger together,” officials state.
