MINTO – Only municipal staff involved in operation of essential services are currently coming into Town of Minto facilities.
On March 23 the town announced that as of 5pm essential services such as fire, water, wastewater, road maintenance and minimal building services would be the only departments with staff remaining at the municipal office. The rest of the municipal staff are being required to work from home.
Residents are still urged to call the municipal office, follow the appropriate phone prompts and leave a voicemail. Staff will return voicemails when possible. If residents know the email address of the person they need to reach; electronic communication is encouraged.
The order followed a provincial directive earlier in the day that only essential businesses would be allowed to operate for the next 14 days as social distancing efforts intensified in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously the town the town had closed the municipal office, as well as, recreation and culture facilities to the public until April 6.
The March 23 announcement states mandatory building inspections will continue within the municipality. To book an inspection residents can leave a voicemail for building inspector Amanda Nowell at 519-338-2511 ext. 249. All other building department activities are suspended.
Burn permits are still required and can be obtained by calling the municipal office, following appropriate phone prompts and leaving a voicemail. As a reminder, any type of burning other than cooking fires is not permitted in the urban areas.
In addition to recreation and culture facilities, playgrounds and public recreation spaces are now closed to the public.
