Minto creates new position of Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk

It looks like there will be a new top position in the municipality sometime in the near future.

On June 14, Minto council held a special closed meeting to consider restructuring recommendations from municipal coordinator Bill Winegard.

What came out of that were three resolutions regarding a new position of Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk.

Council directed Winegard to place an advertisement for the new position in a local Newspaper and appropriate municipal sector websites.

Further, council adopted a recommended organizational chart “as the basis for the organization of the management of the town when the new position of CAO/Clerk is filled, subject to revisions.”

As well, council approved the job description for the new position and authorized it to be posted on the town’s website.

In a recent telephone interview, Mayor David Anderson said council had approved those recommendations which came in from Winegard. During that closed meeting, Winegard was also appointed as a deputy-clerk in order to act as recording secretary during those meetings.

Anderson explained applications for the newly created position will be open and as a new position – anyone looking to take on the position would need to apply.

“This will take the place of the clerk in the current structure,” Anderson said.

Last month, Anderson said he felt the town was heading in the right direction to get options for municipal administration.

Part of the changes will include how staff are organized and work together. In mid-June the municipality announced Winegard was hired on a part-time basis to put that system in place. That hiring came following a closed meeting discussion by council on May 19.

Anderson said Winegard’s role would be to consider Minto’s governance structure and provide a cost analysis of four or five options.
