Minto celebrates World Water Day on March 22

The town is celebrating World Water Day 2011 on March 22.

The day is dedicated to water quality, reflecting its importance alongside quantity of the resource in water management.

The date was established by the United Nations General Assembly in an effort to bring attention to issues facing water around the world.

Minto is asking residents “to reflect on the importance of water in our lives, especially each time we turn on our taps.”

Mayor George Bridge said, “Water is important in so many ways to the residents of Minto, including for our own personal use, to water our livestock, to keep plants growing, in the running of our factories and other uses.

“Its sustainability is vital to our personal well-being, environment, and economy.”

By specifically raising the profile of water quality, residents can encourage governments, organizations, communities and individuals around the world to actively engage in proactively addressing water quality in pollution prevention, clean up and restoration.
