The Minto Mad Dogs Atom Rep team won the OMHA Atom ‘C’ division championship, defeating the Burford Coyoties three games to one in the final series.
Minto won the final game on the road March 29 by a 3-1 margin. The team also won two home games played in Harriston, 5-3 on March 22 and 4-3 on March 28. Their only loss in the series was by a 4-3 count in Burford on March 23.
“The boys really came together to play as a team. We were a smaller team consisting of 11 players, but played with heart and learned how to compete no matter what the situation was,” said coaching staff member Steve Lobsinger.
The team ended up with a 55-8-2 record for the season, along the way winning:
– the Minto Minor Hockey Atom Tournament;
– the Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Wingham;
– the International Silver Stick Tournament in Forest;
– the WOAA ‘C’ Division championship; and
– the WOAA Cruickshank Division championship.
“All-Ontario is quite an accomplishment. The boys all worked hard and deserved to be in the finals. To win the All Ontario final was extra special,” Lobsinger states.
“The coaching staff would like to thank the boys, the parents, Minto Minor Hockey, and the fans for supporting the team all year. It was truly an amazing year,” team officials stated in a press release.
