After a summer of training their calves and attending numerous shows, four members of the Minto Dairy 4-H calf club earned a spot on the county team that went to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to compete at the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic.
Those members are Tyler Canning, Abbi Atkins, Travis Canning and Brittany Lenselink.
In the show ring Tyler Canning was the winner of the junior showmanship class in a field of 107 competitors. Travis Canning was fifth senior showman out of 134 in the class and his heifer, Kingsway Brokaw Amino, was seventh junior yearling in a class of 38.
Lenselink showed a Jersey calf, Golden Tequila Foxxy and placed fifth out of a class of 26. She also showed at the Jersey show later in the week and was senior showman at that show.
Atkins’ calf, Canhope Atwood Temptuous, placed 16th in a class of 54 summer yearlings.
The Wellington County team was fourth for premier county and seventh for the herdsman awards out of 51 counties and provinces.
“Their dedication to the art of showing cattle proved to be exceptional considering there were 360 competitors from across Canada showing at the 2014 edition of the TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic,” club officials note.
