HARRISTON – The Crown Harriston Cultural Centre and Tailored Films are hosting an awareness event to promote mental health and drug awareness on May 7.
The event was rescheduled from March 25 due to inclement weather.
With partners from the Mount Forest Family Health Team, The Grove Palmerston youth hub, and Alpha House, the discussion will touch on mental health, drug addiction and prevention in the community.
Participants will have the chance to ask questions and get in on the conversation, organizers state.
Following the discussion there will be a 10th anniversary screening of the short film A Done Deal, a 40-minute drama about a young man who becomes a drug runner after losing his job as a bartender for being high at work.
Filmed mostly in and around Harriston, the film is Chad Tailor’s 2013 graduation project from the Toronto Film School, based on his own experiences as a former meth addict and drug runner.
In recovery since 2014, Tailor has regularly shared his story with students, organizations and communities.
Residing in Toronto, he is an accredited acting and film coach with the A.A.C.E., faculty of Toronto Film School. Tailor pursues acting and runs his own film company Tailored Films.
Tickets for the event, from 2 to 4pm at the Crown Harriston Cultural Centre, are available for $10 at the door or on Eventbrite.
Organizers note the film A Done Deal contains depictions of drug use, mature language and violence. Parental discretion is advised for any minors.
