Men rescued from Guelph Lake

On April 17 at about 2:30pm Wellington County OPP officers received a report of an overturned canoe on Guelph Lake.

Police say “a passerby noticed two males in the lake screaming for help and flailing their arms.” Police attended along with Guelph firefighters and Guelph-Wellington EMS.

The males, who were both wearing personal flotation devices (PFD), were able to swim to shore and were both transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment of mild hypothermia.

The OPP is reminding everyone to be cautious around open water at this time of year due to the risk of hypothermia; and to  remember the importance of wearing a PFD (or lifejacket).
