Memorial Cup coming to Elora during Mohawks game

Fans wanting to get up close to one of the most famous trophies in all of Sports will have their chance this weekend.

Elora’s Owen MacDonald, who won the Memorial Cup on May 29 with the London Knights, is bringing the cup to the Elora and District Community Centre on June 18.

The trophy will be on display at the Jr. B Elora Mohawks’ final regular season home game at 7pm versus the Six Nations Rebels.

As is the tradition with many team championships, each member of the London Knights is afforded one day with the Memorial Cup.

The trophy, first awarded in 1919, was created in memory of Canadian hockey players who died in the Great War. Six years ago it was rededicated to honour all soldiers who died fighting for Canada in any conflict.

In two games since returning to the Mohawks after winning the Canadian Hockey League championship, MacDonald has registered five points.
