Meet Perth-Wellington candidates at upcoming events

PALMERSTON – The federal election is scheduled for April 28, and there are several meetings and debates planned for Perth-Wellington voters to meet the candidates in their riding.

The Mapleton, Minto, Arthur and Mount Forest Chambers of Commerce are hosting a Meet the Candidates Evening on April 14 at 7pm at the Norgan Theatre in Palmerston.

“This is your chance to hear directly from the candidates about their goals for our communities and their party platforms, and hear the answers to frequently asked questions,”  Chambers of Commerce officials stated.

Officials are still awaiting confirmation for candidates’ attendance, but have invited John Nater (Conservative), Kevin Kruchkywich (NDP), David Mackey (Liberal) and Wayne Baker (PPC).

It will not be a debate, but an opportunity to hear from the candidates “in a direct and open format,” they continue.

It’s also an opportunity “for local businesses and residents to engage directly in the democratic process.

“Each candidate will be given the opportunity to address your questions, and we understand the importance of your input in shaping the future of our community.”

Those interested in submitting questions for the candidates, can visit tinyurl.com/43pupfz5.

Chambers of Commerce officials say they will do their “utmost to ensure your concerns and inquiries are represented,” but note time may limit the number of questions that can be addressed.

“The chambers believe that collaboration and civic engagement are essential to progress, and we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where every participant feels valued,” officials state.

Event sponsors include Wightman Telecom and 88.7 The River.

Stratford events

On April 15, the Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a federal candidates debate from 7 to 9pm at the Stratford Rotary Complex.

Candidates will respond to questions that reflect the priorities of the local business community and broader public.

“Whether you’re a business owner, a concerned citizen or an undecided voter, this is your chance to stay informed and engaged,” stated officials.

Rotary officials are asking guests to register in advance as the complex is limited to a capacity of 200 people.

Those interested can register at stratfordchamber.com.

The United Way and the Local Community Food Centre in Stratford are joining together to create a round table discussion where participants can meet the candidates and discuss important issues on April 16.

Officials note this discussion is not a debate but an opportunity for round table conversations.

The event is set to run from 6 to 8pm at the Local Community Food Centre.

There was an all candidates meeting set for April 8 at the Listowel Agricultural Hall, hosted by the Listowel Agricultural Society and the Perth County Federation of Agriculture.
