Medieval Faire a popular draw in downtown Fergus

The Royal Court in front of the Fergus Public Library was a popular spot at the faire. The jester (Peter Skoggard) congratulates young Arthur (Aidan Obberle of Hanover) for successfully pulling the sword from the stone.
Artists from Toronto came for the day to enjoy the Fergus Medieval Faire and to sketch and paint scenes from the faire. Pictured in the foreground is Noursherwan Siddique. Siddique is a member of Mystfall, a group that entertained the crowds through mischievous role play.

Janine and Scott Oakley of Mississauga have been coming to the Faire for years. Each year they wear a different costume. Janine said she enjoys the friendliness of fellow faire-goers. Scott said he gets inspired by all the different costumes.
Devlin McKay battles with challenger Marco Dimambro of Orangeville, who said he came to Fergus just for the faire. He attended last year and said, "It was so much fun."

On July 20, the downtown core of Fergus was transformed into a thriving medieval village, complete with vikings, knights, peasants, jesters and a king and queen.

Amongst the day long entertainment and opportunities to get medieval, faire-goers enjoyed sword dances, falconry demonstrations, the magic of a bubble fairy and a mermaid, and a viking battle.

Many enthusiasts travelled from places like Niagara and Toronto dressed in their medieval-style finery just for the faire.
