Mayor: county officials unlikely to reverse road configuration decision

ABERFOYLE – Puslinch Mayor James Seeley says Wellington County officials are unlikely to change their mind on the number of traffic lanes in Aberfoyle.

On Jan. 9, Seeley said he attended a recent Wellington County roads committee meeting and heard the response to a letter sent by the township regarding ways to return Aberfoyle to a hamlet status – once the Morriston bypass is built.

The letter suggested consideration of reducing the roundabout to one lane and the roadway to two-lanes instead of the current four-lane cross-section.

Last month, councillor John Sepulis put forward a motion to reduce the number of lanes on Brock Road, which runs through both Aberfoyle and Morriston – but only after the completion of the Morriston bypass.

“At this time they received the letter as information,” Seeley said, adding county officials also want to see the Morriston bypass proceed.

“The county’s position is that it provides transportation links to the arterial roads,” he said.

As such, Seeley said, “at this stage of the game, (the county) is not really in favour of adjusting the layout.”

He added the county is willing to consider some form of urban beautification to make the area appear more like a hamlet.
